Steve discovered CrossFit in 2008 after learning about it online. He quickly joined CrossFit’s virtual community and started including CrossFit into his own workouts. Once he saw the benefits of CrossFit, he started integrating it into his one-on-one training and boot camp classes. After that he never looked back, moving over strictly to the CrossFit methodology.
Steve is excited to coach at CrossFit Wilmette. His goal is to grow this welcoming CrossFit community on the Northshore where people can encourage each other to achieve their fitness goals.
Steve lives in Deerfield with his wife and daughter who are both regulars at the gym.

“Zach is the newest member of the CrossFit Wilmette coaching staff. He is a CF-L2, holds certifications with CrossFit Weightlifting, and USAW, He has been coaching CrossFit for four years at several gyms and was the owner of CrossFit Bear Down in Westmont for two years. Zach’s athletic background comes from playing hockey through his youth and concluding at Miami University in Oxford, OH. As a competitive athlete, Zach has competed in several large competitions including The Granite Games, Wodapalooza, The Pantheon Games, and Thunderdome. He specializes in weightlifting and power lifting and has been a passionate student of all major lifts in both disciplines. Zach is currently pursuing a graduate degree from Loyola University while coaching at CrossFit Wilmette.

Like so many, Chad has been involved in athletics for as long as he can remember. Football, baseball, golf, and basketball consumed his youth. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a certificate in Athletic Training. While at UW, he worked with the Sports Medicine staff treating injury and rehabbing myriad college athletes, and he met his wife and fellow CrossFit Wilmette athlete, Courtney.
Chad received a second Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Purdue University and worked on a cardiac floor while living in Indianapolis. Chad continued to be a fitness geek after high school, enjoying running, biking, and lifting weights. Courtney, a former Division 1 collegiate athlete, was the same way. In 2013, they were looking for something new. It was in Westfield, Indiana at Thrive where the two met and fell in love with CrossFit. Fittingly, their first workout was Fran. Even though they felt like death, CrossFit had them hooked. They loved the challenge of learning and refining Olympic lifts and gymnastics movements, and the constantly varied workouts that tested their cardiovascular, muscular, and mettle fitness. They also loved the group atmosphere where everyone competed, but also cheered each other on. They have been members of a CrossFit community everywhere they lived, and joined CrossFit Wilmette as soon as they moved to Evanston in mid-2015.
Chad loves that CrossFit is scalable for everyone, and that its principles will challenge all from the elite to the most deconditioned athletes. The movements CrossFit athletes develop, train, and strengthen are vital to lifelong health and independence, and best yet, the workouts are complete in under 60 minutes.

In 2013, as Courtney approached graduation from Purdue University with a PhD in Health Communication, she was looking for a different workout routine that would easily fit with her new schedule. After finishing her “introductory workout” Fran, she vividly remembers driving away from the box with her partner (and fellow CrossFit coach) Chad saying, “that sucked, but that was awesome.” A former Division 1 college athlete at the University of Wisconsin, Courtney instantly fell in love with CrossFit. Many of the training elements she enjoyed as a sprint-distance swimmer are at the core of the CrossFit philosophy – high intensity, constantly varied, functional movements. CrossFit just made sense to her.
CrossFit has been a constant in Courtney’s life while moving for her career from Indiana to Florida, and most recently, Evanston, where she joined the faculty at Northwestern University as an Assistant Professor. She loves that wherever she moves or travels, she can find a box, and an instant connection with other like-minded athletes.
Given Courtney’s passion for teaching and previous experience as a swim coach, her decision to become a CrossFit coach was inevitable. Courtney earned her level one certificate in the spring of 2018. As a coach, Courtney believes that CrossFit is for everyone. She enjoys promoting friendly competition, and loves helping all athletes, new and experienced, grow and develop in their technique and fitness.

Pat O’neil is pleased to have joined CrossFit Wilmette’s coaching lineup in 2019. Pat is incredibly passionate about helping others achieve healthier lifestyles through fitness and nutrition. He is a recent college graduate and lifelong athlete with a long list of sports awards and achievements, including NCAA Carthage College Football Rookie of the Year, University of Tampa NCAA Conference Champion, and 2015 Ironman Triathlete All World Athlete. Pat is a competitive CrossFit athlete for Team Ruthless in Pursuit and works at Medline when he’s not busy coaching and training. Pat is available for private and small group training. Colleen Himan, RN, MSN, started CrossFit in 2013. She realized after running several marathons and attending bootcamp classes that she needed more and CrossFit allowed her to use her previous competitive gymnastics background as a base, she’s been hooked ever since. Colleen is also a Wilmette Mom with 2 school aged boys and a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has a a vested interest in children’s health and believes movement and physical fitness are paramount to a child’s development. She is CrossFit Wilmette’s Kids instructor!

For Nathan, CrossFit Wilmette has always been a home away from home. Fitness has been a part of Nathan’s life for as long as he can remember, whether it was participating in football, rowing, or simply working out in his basement. But when Nathan walked into CrossFit Wilmette, he knew he had finally found exactly what he was looking for.
Nathan was only 13 years old when he joined the CrossFit Wilmette family, so he grew up within the four walls of the gym. Eager to make the transition from athlete to coach as soon as he could, Nathan obtained his Level 1 Certification in December of 2017. Now, Nathan is excited to help the athletes of CrossFit Wilmette achieve their fitness goals and watch the community grow.

Jason Sweas, PT, DPT believes CrossFit is the perfect complement to the world of Physical Therapy in that it provides a vehicle for people to move from a state of wellness to a state of fitness and in doing so, preventing the gradual decline that happens with age. His training in Physical Therapy has taught him that correct movement patterns and proper posture are the best methods of injury prevention. And CrossFit’s emphasis on mechanics and consistency before intensity are a perfect philosophical match to these ideas.
Jason received his Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2008 from the University of Illinois at Chicago after a brief stint working as a logistics and financial analyst for Quill Corporation. Prior to this he graduated from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, studying Economics and Biology and meeting his beautiful wife, Kate.
After finding CrossFit in late 2008, Jason stopped his poor attempt at weightlifting and running for exercise almost immediately. Doing CrossFit WODs at the Evanston YMCA for 1.5 years prior to meeting Steve was challenging, but bumper plates and olympic lifts sealed the addiction.
Jason wants to see the CrossFit Wilmette Community grow and develop a reputation for loyalty and generosity. His vision of CrossFit Wilmette is to see a community of individuals working together to get better at all aspects of life.
